July 4th is my favorite holiday, largely because my small town in a big city comes together to celebrate in a spectacular way. Our day usually starts at about 6:30 AM when we wake up to head to the Will Rogers Palisades 5K/10K race, and ends around 10:00 PM with a seemingly endless fireworks show at Palisades Charter High School. In between those events are a lot of open houses and my job is usually to provide a specialty cocktail to at least one of them.

For brunch gatherings I always make my favorite Bloody Mary mix. It’s best to make it a day before if possible so the ingredients have time to marinate, but it still tastes amazing when you make it on the spot. I love this mix so much that I’ll often skip the addition of vodka all together, so keep in mind that this is a good recipe for non-drinkers too.

Grey Goose Bloody Mary

1.5 ounces Grey Goose Vodka 4-5 ounces Bloody Mary Mix

Fresh dill, cilantro, and celery garnish

Bloody Mary Mix Recipe

1 cup tomato juice

1.5 ounces lemon juice

1 sprig dill

1 sprig cilantro

3-4 drops Tabasco sauce

2 drops Worcestershire sauce Salt and Pepper to taste

Bloody Mary Mix Recipe Directions Muddle the dill and cilantro in the lemon juice until the lemon juice begins to turn light green. Strain the lemon juice into the tomato juice to filter out the herbs. Add the Tabasco sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and shake until well mixed. Add salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until you’re ready to mix it with the vodka.

My other favorite recipe is a simple hard lemonade drink that takes two seconds to make and will not stress you out if you’ve got a full July 4th agenda too!

Hard Pink Lemonade

1.5 ounces vodka

½ ounce fresh lemonade

4 ounces pink lemonade

Lemon garnish

Directions Fill a martini shaker and add each ingredient. Shake well to mix, then strain into a lowball filled with ice.
